Belgium, and especially the city of Liège, was extremely proud of accomplishing this design of Santiago Calatrava. Instead of the old, grimm, dark stationbuilding Liège got a new, white steel-structured station, radiating with light. The open architecture has a very welcoming effect. Hopes are raised that this will enforce the ongoing renaissance of the city.
